It’s National Selfie Day! 📸Located 250 miles above Earth, the International Space Station (@ISS) provides a unique perspective for astronauts to take selfies like this photo astronaut Ricky Arnold (@Astro_Ricky) captured last week while working in the vacuum of space during a spacewalk. Along with astronaut Drew Feustel, the duo completed the sixth spacewalk at the space station in 2018, lasting 6 hours, 49 minutes. The two astronauts installed new high-definition cameras that will provide enhanced views during the final phase of approach and docking of the SpaceX Crew Dragon and Boeing Starliner commercial crew spacecraft that will soon begin launching from American soil. The spacewalk was the 211th in support of assembly and maintenance of the unique orbiting laboratory where humans have been living and working continuously for nearly 18 years. Spacewalkers have now spent a total of 54 days, 23 hours and 29 minutes working outside the station. A higher altitude view of Icy Bay in Alaska️. Operation IceBridge, the largest airborne survey to map Earth’s polar ice, captures unprecedented three-dimensional views of Arctic and Antarctic ice sheets, ice shelves and sea ice. Many of the photographs from our lengthy missions feature the icy landscapes of Greenland and Antarctica, but the view during our shorter missions reveal some equally majestic landscapes, like this image of Icy Bay, in the Wrangell-Saint Elias Wilderness in Alaska. Just a century ago, this body of water was covered in ice. Data collected during Operation IceBridge will help scientists better understand processes that connect the polar regions with the global climate system. California dreaming! European astronaut Alexander Gerst (@Astro_Alex_ESA) captured this image from the vantage point of the International Space Station (@ISS), sharing it and saying: "One of my favourite orbits is down along the West Coast of [the] USA, from Alaska to the Andes. We fly this route once a day." Gerst is currently one of six humans aboard the orbiting laboratory. Each day, the station completes 16 orbits of our home planet as the six humans living and working aboard the station conduct important science and research. Their work will not only benefit life here on Earth, but will help us venture deeper into space than ever before. Great ball of fire! 🔥 This close-up view of the Sun is from a two-hour period on August 13, 2018, showing a minor eruption of charged particles rising up and twisting about before falling back into the Sun. Captured in extreme ultraviolet light, these kinds of events are difficult to see except when they occur along the sun's edge. At its peak, the plasma rises to heights that are several times the diameter of Earth. We use the Solar Dynamics Observatory, which captured this view, to better understand the Sun's influence on Earth and near-Earth space by studying the solar atmosphere in many wavelengths simultaneously. This allows us to better understand the solar variations that influence life on Earth and humanity's technological systems by looking for solar wind, energetic particles, and variations in the solar irradiance that lead to better predictions of space weather events. Второй аккаунт принадлежит непосредственно одному из действующих космонавтов и ведется он с борта космической станции. С его помощью можно увидеть, например, лунное затмение так близко, как будто луна находится у вас за окном.

А еще там показывают цветы..представляете, розы в космосе!

 

В этих аккаунтах нет привычных всем фото еды, красивых нарядов, фото птиц или деревьев, но в них есть неземная красота и конечно же немного романтики. Или много!
